springsteenrunLate last week, Bruce Springsteen announced that he was reneging on plans to perform in Greensboro, North Carolina. Springsteen’s decision was prompted by North Carolina’s contentious new law, HB2, the “Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act.”

According to New Jersey’s second biggest export — behind organized crime — HB2 represents a coordinated effort by the people of North Carolina to codify “prejudice and bigotry.”

What HB2 actually represents is a coordinated effort by the people of North Carolina to keep grown men from using the same bathroom as 16-year-old girls. As the uncle of a 12 -year-old girl, I can attest to the logic behind keeping all boys from using the same bathroom as 12-year-old girls.

What escapes me, and clearly escapes amateur anthropologists like Springsteen, is that the people of North Carolina — or the people of North Korea, for that matter — needed a coordinated effort to accomplish such a feat. What also escapes me, but apparently not Springsteen, is how pretty much everyone on the left side of the American political spectrum abhors the idea of keeping the man bits separated from the lady parts in public restrooms.
