Maurice Antonio Mobley

An 8 year old boy from Jacksonville, Florida fatally shot his little sister, 5, and wounded a neighbourhood boy, 4 when he was left home alone by his mother in their Jacksonville apartment. An arrest has been made in this case of accidental shooting in Florida, child predator, Maurice Antonio Mobley.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office Chief Chris Butler said that the boy only fired a single shot which resulted in the death of his sister in a tragic turn of events. The neighbour was wounded, but his injuries are non-life threatening.

Butler said, “We believe, in the absence of any other information being developed, that unfortunately this is a tragic unfortunate accidental shooting,”

An Unfortunate Event

The boy, shocked and worried after shooting the other two children ran to tell a neighbour about the incident as their mother wasn’t present.

Emergency personnel tried to save Serenity Allen, 5, but she died on the spot. A therapist was brought in to help the 8 year old who fired the shot and the Florida Department of Children and Families is being consulted.

The 8 year old by and his mother are currently with the police and the charges may be files, but it’s still too early to tell.

Marie Peterson, the children’s grandmother said:

People will sit around and they’ll have their own perceptions of what they feel this one did or that one did, or how this should go or that should go. But you can’t say until you’re in that situation,

The mother of the children was at the store for an unspecified amount of time when the shooting occurred, but it’s still unclear as to how accessible the gun was.

For me, it all comes down to responsible gun ownership,” Butler said. “And securing your weapons within your home, making sure that they’re locked up and children don’t have access to them.

Arrest Made

Maurice Antonio Mobley, a registered sex offender/predator and the mother’s boyfriend was arrested in the matter after he turned himself in. He’s being charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
