The spat between American singers Azealia Banks and Lana Del Rey is one of the weirdest in showbiz – and it’s now gotten a whole lot weirder. Rapper Banks, raised in the Harlem district of New York City, has threatened to use voodoo to burn down Del Ray’s home.
Banks first hit the headlines in bizarre fashion in 2016 when it was suggested that she had been sacrificing chickens in her closet at home. She posted on Instagram a picture of her cleaning said closet after what she claimed to be “three years’ worth of brujeria” – brujeria is Spanish for ‘witchcraft’.
Did Banks really use live chickens in voodoo rituals?
This was followed by videos of the rapper using a power sander to remove what looked like feathers and ‘gunk’ from her floorboards. She also said “real witches do real things” leading to suggestions that she had been using the closet for sacrificial purposes.
Now Banks has upped the ante by threatening to use her voodoo powers to burn down Lana Del Ray’s house – with the singer inside it. “You know The Big Bad Witch is smarter than that. When her house mysteriously goes up in flames while she is asleep inside,” she said when it was suggested Del Ray could bring down her career.
Del Ray and Banks first clashed over Kanye West and Trump
The feud began when Del Ray criticised Kanye West’s support of Donald Trump. “Trump becoming our president was a loss for the country but your support of him is a loss for the culture.” Del Rey tweeted to West.
Banks responded: “You, a privileged white woman, have no ****ing business opening your mouth to a black man from Chicago, telling him what he should and shouldn’t ****ing believe in.”
Del Ray is no stranger to the bizarre, either, announcing that once a month at midnight on the date of the waning crescent moon she places a hex on Donald Trump.
