Their own day-to-day lives transformed instantly that July day once the federal government letter showed up letting them know that the work permit wasn’t being renewed.

“My young children mentioned, ‘Daddy, we had been born inside the Bahamas’ — this is their words and phrases — ‘we feel Canada will help us.’

“They explained, ‘Daddy, let us head to Canada — find our own way out’.”

Right now, their family destiny sits on getting yet another piece of formal federal government letter: a notice that these people meet the criteria for their asylum claim heard.

This will then begin a procedure that will permit his youngsters to attend school as well as for him to acquire a work permit.
