Actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt reached an agreement over the custody of their six children in the negotiations to settle their divorce.
“According to this agreement, the six children will remain in custody of the mother and continue with visits with their father,” said a representative of the actress in a note addressed to the television program Entertainment Tonight.
Jolie and Pitt agreed and signed more than a week ago this agreement for which they counted on the advice of experts in the care of the children.
The representative’s note did not provide further details on the clauses or further conditions of the said agreement.
After more than a decade together and just two years after marrying, Jolie asked BradPitt on September 19 for a divorce and applied for legal custody of the six children : three adopted – the Cambodian Maddox, the Vietnamese Pax and the Ethiopian Zahara – and three biological – Shiloh and the twins Knox and Vivienne.
Pitt, who originally obtained only visiting rights to her children, presented her judicial response on November 4 in which she required the shared physical and legal custody of the children.
Custody of the children appeared to be an important point of friction in the dissolution, Brad Pitt now 52 and Jolie 41, especially after reports that the actor’s treatment of his children might have been one of the causes that motivated the actress to request this divorce.
In this regard, the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services opened an investigation after an alleged incident in the family’s private plane last September, where Pitt reportedly was verbally and physically digressive with his son Maddox, age 15.
Later, the couple reached a temporary agreement by which the actress obtained the physical custody of the six children until a definitive resolution could be reached.
