Russian Ambassador to Turkey Shot Dead

The assassination of Andrey Karlov was captured in real time videos and photos that went viral all over the internet around the world.

Who the assassin really was?

The assassin is said to be a Turkish Police officer who was seen standing behind Andrey Karlov, the Russian Ambassador, during his speech at an art gallery in Ankara.

Moments later, he took his handgun and shot the ambassador nine times in a row shouting “Do Not Foget Aleppo, Do Not Forget Syria!”

The foreign minister of Russia described the action of the assassin as a
“Terrorist Attack.”

What do we know about the assassin?

The Mayor of Ankara- Melih Gokcek confirmed that the assassin worked in the city itself as a police officer.

According to Turkish Media, the assassin is said to be a 22 year old police officer who worked on special operations in the city.

The Turkish authorities confirmed that he was also serving in the police unit of Ankara’s riot since last two and a half years.

He was clean-shaven and was wearing a black suit with a matching belt and tie.

Right before the attack he had also been captured in a photograph in which he was standing next to an AP photographer, just behind Mr. Karlov, during the speech.

The pictures of the assassin has been circulated widely by the Turkish media, which later identified him as M. Mert Altintas.

Secretary of State John F. Kerry said in a statement,

Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, the Russian people, and with the other victims who were injured in this shooting,”.“We stand ready to offer assistance to Russia and Turkey as they investigate this despicable attack, which was also an assault on the right of all diplomats to safely and securely advance and represent their nations around the world.

The assassination is said to be done when the world noticed improvements in the relations between Turkey and Russia.

The leaders of both the countries took a pledge to not let the mishappening cast a shadow over the friendship, they decided to go for.
