At least 13 people were killed and 407 were injured in traffic accidents during the New Years in the Dominican Republic, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) reported Sunday.
Since midday last Friday when the COE launched the second phase of it’s preventive operation for Christmas, there have been 347 traffic accidents in the country.
According to a report of the COE, among the dead are four children between 14 and 17 years old, as well as a woman of Dominican nationality.
They also indicated that 54 people have been intoxicated by alcohol over .082
The Emergency Operations Center on Friday launched the second phase of the preventive operation “Christmas Union for your security,” which involves 37,721 people, including police, military, doctors and rescuers, said the COE.
Another 13 people died in traffic accidents during the Christmas celebration in Dominican Republic, 7 less than in the previous period, according to the emergency agency.
In that period, “732 road accidents were recorded in the country, affecting 882 people”, the source said.
